Online Mastering FAQ

What is our online mastering service?

We know it’s not always practical to come up to the studio. So we wanted to make sure our mastering service is as accessible as possible, to everyone. We’ve made a service as simple as we can do to give your tracks get the great sound they deserve!

Who’s mastering my track?

Our mastering service is carried out by the first engineer available. This ensures that we can get the master sent to you as soon as possible, while maintaining our high standards to give you the highest quality.

What is the difference between mastering online and coming to the studio?

There is none! Our engineers use the exact same process mastering your track as though you were with us in the studio. This means no cut and paste presets. Just real engineers, using their ears to make your track sound great!

What’s “remote attended” mastering?

We’ve set up our studio to be able to send the direct feed from the console for you to be able to listen to at home. That way if you have any specific requirements and want to go over anything ‘in person’ you can! We love having people up in the studio and wanted to be able to capture that same feeling. Make sure to get in touch if you have any questions or would like to book a ‘remote attended’ session!

How should my track come in for mastering?

For mastering we would like the track to come in as a lossless stereo file (WAV or AIFF for example not MP3) as opposed to a DAW session.

When submitting your track please remove any effects on the master bus, such as limiters or compressors. Ideally when submitting your track it should peak anywhere between -6dB to -3dB to give us the headroom to apply our mastering processing! If you have been mixing with dynamic processing on feel free to attach it as a reference track for us to listen to!

You can submit the track at whatever sample rate you recorded it at (44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 96 kHz etc). Please do not downsample or upsample your track prior to sending it to us! We can do that on our end and we find it’s always better to go about it this way.

How do I pay?

When you submit the track it appears in our cloud. You will receive a confirmation email from our engineer to say the track has been received and work can start on it. At this point you will receive an invoice for the work to be carried out. Payment must be made in full before work is carried out on your track. If you have any questions regarding payment please make sure to get in touch!

Can you do stem mastering?

We certainly can do but there is an additional charge for this. Please get in touch with us to discuss your project and it’s specific requirements!

How long does it take?

We will always endeavour to get the track sent to you as soon as possible while maintaining our high standards. It typically takes us between 3-4 working days to carry out a master and get it back to you! If you have any time concerns or it’s a larger project please make sure to let us know!

How will my track come back?

Tracks will be given to you as a stereo file WAV 44.1kHz at 16Bit ideal for streaming. If you have any additional requirements (such as DDP for CD pressings) let us know prior to mastering. Additional file formats can be done for an additional cost.

What if I don’t like my master?

As part of the service you are entitled to 3 different revisions on the track you submit. Make sure to let us know your notes and we will try our best to get it sounding how you would like it!

Can you guys listen to my track in advance and give feedback prior to mastering?

If our engineers have time there’s no problem sending your tracks ahead for us to listen to and advise. We often find this works well for everyone when it comes to the mastering process so feel free to get in touch with us!

I’d still like to pay a visit, can I come up?

Of course! We love having people up to listen in and make sure they’re confident their mix is in safe hands. The rates given on the online mastering are for just that so please get in touch with us to make arrangements and book in for your next session!
